Fergie’s national anthem apologize was brilliant from a public relations standpoint. Fergie shifted the negative narrative after her rendition of the national anthem went viral on social media. " I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone.

2017 was a wild year, as freight transportation faced one disruption after another. The biggest influences were the Four Es: Economic growth. E-commerce. Electronic logging devices. Extreme weather (including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma). Those four factors added up to extraordinary pressure on spot market truck capacity, driving rates up as high as we’ve seen them since at least 2010, when we established the freight rates database that forms the foundation of DAT RateView.

The National Football League has gone insane. Many NFL players and coaches keep doing the same thing over and over again, and for some reason are expecting a different result. From a public relations perspective, the NFL protests have been very poorly executed. Bad idea after bad idea. My formula to get more Twitter followers is simple: Engagement = Notifications = Followers. Notifications are the key, and the more you engage with others on Twitter, the more notifications people will get that are linked directly to your account. Therefore people will be able to know who you are and follow you. Every time you follow someone, favorite, reply, or retweet, they will get a notification saying you did so.

The public should never receive information before your own staff. As leaders, you need to remember to communicate internally first, then go out to the public. As my mom used to tell me and my two brothers growing up, "If I'm going to get bad news, I better hear it from you first." That has always stuck with me for some reason, and I'm glad it did. Communicating from the inside out is a good philosophy for both personal and professional communications.

If you need to convert a flyer created in Word or a PDF to a JPG to post on social media, I recommend Zamzar.com. I have been using it for years, and have never signed up or paid a dime. It's fast and very reliable. I will often get flyers sent to me that people want posted on our social media sites, but they are not my documents and not in an acceptable image format to be able to post to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
