As More Newspapers Close, News Deserts Spread Across the United States

Since 2005, the nation has lost more than one-third of its newspapers, some 3,300 in all. However, that gain includes 30 newspapers that converted from print to digital. During the past 12 months, U.S. newspapers closed at a rate of nearly two and a half per week.
