The rationale for the down-and-dirty oppo PR is summed up in an earlier interview with Definers founder Tim Miller. As Bob Pickard of Signal Leadership Communications reminded us, Facebook was caught running a “whisper campaign” against Google in 2011. And that’s really the bottom line for professional communicators.
Because if there’s one thing I believe takes public relations from good to great, it’s when your audiences start becoming your community through the relationships you develop with them. But I was curious to see how Maddie and Lindy perceived not just Open Community , but its juxtaposition with public relations.
And for nonprofit organizations on a budget, blogging can often be the most effective way to engage and mobilize communities. Because the community of library bloggers is so big and distributed, it’s hard to take a one-size-fits-all approach. Our biggest growth spurt was 150 percent between 2010 and 2011.
Here’s my interview with the CEO and co-owner, Jennifer Radk e, on social media education and her vision for the NISM. The National Institute for Social Media (NISM) was started in 2011 in response to a growing issue companies were having in identifying skilled candidates in the area of social media.

They’re doing such a good job of it, that they’re getting their customers and community to tell their stories for them. It is really about using the channels so well, building such good relationships with one’s community, that they are energized to tell your story for you. I’ll never forget that.
When my family undertook major renovations on our house in 2014, we began by interviewing several contractors. But few flood victims after Hurricane Harvey had the luxury of interviewing contractors. Fortunately, nonprofits and religious communities helped organize relief efforts and connected volunteers with families in need.

They listen a LOT. Then they plan. And talk they do. So they were personally connected to the experience, the foods they had missed and the Sainsburys brand.

It simply means the primary objectives of most social business efforts are centered on concepts like community-building, engagement, listening, and participating in conversations. This, for successful applicants, turns into an interview (which is where I came in). In the year I applied, out of our group interview of 10, there were probably seven future fashion PRs, and three music PRs (I was the latter at the time). That got a big “check&# from me.
