We work with a lot of nonprofits and community-based organizations, and those are the stories that are the most interesting. They’re the most interesting to you and me. They’re the most interesting to the media, to the public, and really are the ones that do end up getting the volunteers and the donations pouring in.
I attended a university near my home, and through some volunteer activities, lucked into a part-time position with the regional daily newspaper. Quite honestly, no offense to my university education, but that was probably my best training in actual communications. We had no negative feedback from either donors or the general community.
