I’m Seth Clevenger, managing editor for features at Transport Topics , a weekly newspaper and multimedia outlet dedicated to covering trucking and the freight transportation industry. The freight market has since cooled and disruptions have eased, but the experiences of the pandemic continue to influence the transportation industry.

How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started? I’ve been in journalism for 22 years. A space to watch, for sure.
When I graduated, I spent my spare time offering to write press releases and manage social media for community groups in my native Detroit. When I applied for PR jobs, I always ran into barriers like unpaid internships, lack of transportation, not enough experience, not being a culture fit and (eventually) too much job-hopping.
I’m a senior reporter at The Verge , and I cover the emerging technologies and business side of transportation companies big and small, with a special focus on electric vehicles. How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started? They let me write while I did that, and I’ve been with them ever since.
Previously I was senior editor at sister brand Fleet Owner, which is geared toward fleet executives and other transportation industry leaders. As with anyone writing about the transportation industry, the transition to zero emission vehicles, and what it takes to service them, is top of mind. My pathway was very typical.
My beat encompasses electric vehicles, autonomous driving, charging infrastructure and anything else that’s fascinating at the intersection of sustainability, technology and transportation. It’s one thing to write about how cars are changing from behind a desk. Describe the craziest or most fun story you have written.
My main coverage and writing focuses are the transportation technology world, and government and regulations related to the trucking and freight industries, along with other website and magazine duties. and how transportation companies will start seeing the benefits of repaired highways and bridges.
In my role, I help populate our websites with original content as well as pertinent press releases, and write feature stories for print and the web. How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started? I’ve been in journalism for almost two years. It’s been a very educational experience, to say the least!

No offense to those in that arena, but I think we have an overabundance of journalism aimed at investors or B2B audiences; I don’t think we have enough for the people who aren’t ready for all the changes coming their way soon, like EV charging or subscription features. I get a lot of “Write about this startup!”
I also write about mobility and transportation topics, including pedestrian safety. I’m watching the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the auto industry and other types of transportation. If a story topic interests me, I expect I will report and write a better story.
In my role today, the most fun stories I get to write come from test-driving trucks. Personally, I am most proud of our Women in Transportation series at FleetOwner. Our Commercial Vehicle Group also won editorial excellence awards for investigative journalism, a technology article on hydrogen trucks, and editorial use of data.
Vesna Brajkovic has been covering the transportation industry since 2016, including trucking, railroading, the automotive aftermarket and aviation. How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started? In 2021, at the Women in Trucking annual conference as managing editor of HDT.
