Public relations measurement has evolved significantly with the rise of digital media and advanced analytics tools. Modern measurement goes far beyond simple press clip counting, allowing teams to track everything from socialmedia engagement to lead generation.
As Vice President of digital research at Fleishman Hillard, on 12 May 2010, he referred to a PESO model as a metrics matrix that the agency used. I used to follow Don’s blog, MetricsMan as he was one of the leading figures discussing measurement and evaluation at this time (along with Katie Delahaye Paine ).
At the PR News Measurement conference last week in Washington DC I was disappointed to discover that 70 percent of the attendees surveyed prior to the event had not heard of the Barcelona Principles. Is measurement lost? I didn’t think I’d get back into the blogging saddle for a few days yet, but I couldn’t help it when I read this excellent post from Nick Lucido on the problem with PR measurement. The biggest problem with measurement is a lack of understanding of the basic principles of this art.
