If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know I’m a big devotee of reading the hard copy print edition of my local newspaper, the Minneapolis Star Tribune. And, it also includes some syndicated content from the Wall Street Journal, which I really enjoy. And, like many, I particularly enjoy the Sunday edition.
As the media landscape shifts and we see newspapers folding, you encounter more ethical issues. I’ve had issues where, for example, one of my clients was a hotel group. We just had a newspaper in Bartlett, Texas, close. This newspaper had been publishing regularly since 1886, every single week, without fail.
I was very keen to start a small daily newspaper in English for foreigners in Bulgaria, who were not all that many at the time. Throughout my professional life of a journalist, I had only worked in daily newspapers, and of course I knew how to do it. What are your memories of March 12, 2001, your launch day? It will be waste of time!”
Our guest has had a remarkable career beginning as a newspaper correspondent. Then at a certain point, I parted ways with journalism. I still think of this quote from Winston Churchill: "One can achieve many things with journalism, but one must know when to leave it". He gave me a job at the Serdika dairy factory.
Thirty-five years ago, I was among the founders of a beautiful newspaper in Bulgaria - the "Standart" newspaper, which still exists today, and I read it with pleasure. He said many things about many topics, including, "You can achieve a lot with journalism, but you need to know exactly when to give it up." Maxim: 30 years ago.
And part of this enormous change globally undoubtedly was Maxim Behar, Bulgarian born entrepreneur who often characterize himself as “citizen of the world” and spends his time mostly in the airplanes, hotels and conference rooms speaking at Summits and Forums.
Entering the PR Business Remembering the words of Winston Churchill, “ You can achieve a lot of things with journalism, but you must know when to quit ”—Maxim quit journalism as the managing editor of the largest then Bulgarian newspaper “Standard”. Maxim too was awarded the Best PR professional in Europe in 2020.
And then when I came back, I started Standard Daily as one of the first, if not the first private newspapers in Bulgaria, in my native country Bulgaria where I live. Remember what Winston Churchill said a long time ago that you can achieve a lot of things with journalism, but you must know when to quit. And it took a couple of months.
After graduation, he worked as a journalist for 15 years and then launched one of the first private daily newspapers in Bulgaria – Standard News. Decades ago, Late Konrad Hilton was asked, what is important for a hotel to be successful?, When Maxim was in high school, he ever since wanted to be a brilliant journalist.
So I had like a journalism line. I could have ended up in any way, but I got an offer from, um, but when the first office I got was from a journalism university in Australia, um, called RMIT, which is based in Melbourne. There’s the opportunity to do radio journalism. And at that time as well, journalism changed a lot.
It was exposed, by the Wall Street Journal, as having known for over two years about the negative impact that Instagram was having on young people’s mental health. Facebook has been studying the impact of Instagram on its users since 2019 and the internal study was leaked to the newspaper. Peloton – is it that dangerous?

This is crucially important not only for the local people, but also for the tourists – new hotels, bars and restaurants have been opened, much more beautiful guest houses, diving centres are more modern, and many more services are being offered. Maxim Behar: Journalism has changed a lot over the past decade, this is the reality.
At the time, there were whole pages of such obituaries in the newspapers. I read articles from the Wall Street Journal - two pages on the topic of "Failure of the Swedish model", then there are 5 more articles that talk about the success of the Swedish model. It’s a pity. Too bad for many other people. How will the business survive?
According to the holier-than-thou op-eds this is clearly the fault of the news gathering public for shunning proper paywalled journalism. Newspapers know all about truthiness. Yet this stern lecture from a dying breed misses a greater truth. It seemed to capture the essence of Trump’s sheer contempt for democracy.
