The Irish media landscape is dominated by the state broadcaster, RTE, whose reach extends to TV, radio, online, mobile and socialmedia. Television viewership is steady and national/local radio remains popular: on average, people watch more than three hours of TV and listen to more than three hours of radio every day.

There is no easier way to build a brand than with socialmedia. Some people are discouraged or stressed by socialmedia but it is a game-changer in terms of access and what you can do to reach a huge audience, quickly. These contacts can be a gold mine of information and access, particularly when it comes to cracking morning television or top-tier print publications. And when it comes to broadcast media, contributors often have greater flexibility to work in brand messages or feature products than actual network television employees.
When I started out in PR, my focus was building relationships with the media who were mostly print journalists at newspapers and trade publications. As I found editorial success for my agency’s clients, I was able to branch out and pitch radio and television broadcast opportunities. In the late 1980s, the media was cut and dry.
When you try to answer something you don’t know, it could backfire on you – especially on a recorded interview like television, radio, or podcast. This week, I want to talk about, what if you’re in an interview, especially on television, and you don’t know the answer to the question. So what do you do?
Public Relations can come in many forms but for this post, let’s focus on media relations, community relations, online and socialmedia. Media Relations. Do your homework on which media outlet is best for your product, service or brand and find the journalist(s) who cover your topic. Online and SocialMedia.
Media does give you authority and makes you more credible but it won’t necessarily get you instant sales the minute you appear on television or in a print interview. So, just landing in the media will not instantly generate sales. I got a $10,000 client from being on television. Again, It could.
What most people forget about with socialmedia is the “social” part. Are you socially listening to the online conversation? We pitch the media. We pitch right then and there and if you want to be a VIP, we actually take you into a television studio. We write video scripts. We film videos.

If you see someone who is regularly in the media as the expert, doesn’t that make you feel more comfortable in hiring them? Why not take the media you receive – an article, blog, or radio or television interview, and send that to a prospective client or customer. Tell people on socialmedia.
Make sure that if you make that investment, you see the return in products sold, people coming to your site or socialmedia, or growing your list with potential clients or customers. But you know, these people who are so nervous about it could end up on morning television. Pitch the media. We actually also, as part of this, our VIPs met with the former executive producer of The Today Show and when she went through their pitches, she just had minor tweaks and little things. The pitches were unbelievable.
It’s important to put out regular content, to be featured in the media. SocialMedia and Influence. Does your socialmedia reflect who you are and what you do? This goes for the media but also your potential clients and customers. Have you authored any articles, papers or books?
I promise that they will say who you are and where you come from and link back to you, when it goes on the website or on the domain, whatever – if it’s a print interview or if it’s a television interview – but don’t sell. And then at the end, make sure you say thank you.
And each day, we would give the attorneys a quick read-out of the themes we were seeing in the news and on socialmedia. And now, start to use that in your content, your socialmedia, your media appearances and turn yourself into someone who is captivating to an audience! This week I want to give you the number one thing that’s going to make you stand out with the media and that is by being captivating. You want to draw the media in.
It’s up to you to be your own megaphone when it comes to your media appearances. YOU need to post it on socialmedia. So here are some ideas of what to do with your most recent media appearance. Obviously, you want to put it on socialmedia. So make sure you take advantage of any media that you get.
You also need to be able to do a review of your assets (website and socialmedia) and make sure you check out when the media checks you out. Don’t forget to connect with journalists on socialmedia too. You’ll develop a much better relationship with the media. Basically, you need to be observant.
Instead of just posting on socialmedia , incorporate a story, give your insight, your feedback, an example. They can really get to know you when you put story into video and your socialmedia posts. it needs to be based on a story. Everything has a story. What is yours? What is your customer’s story?

Imagine having the media reach out to you because you are seen as THE go-to expert in the industry. They run great businesses. and I’m going to call it established to known™.

You need to check out when the media checks you out so all your assets need to be in place – your website, your LinkedIn profile, your socialmedia, because we don’t know exactly where they’re going to land. PR is one piece of a bigger picture.
